As we proceed with our scientific and economic development, as we are increasing our horizons in the world, so are we increasing our weight and waistlines. Yes, it’s true; we are getting obese day by day. Obesity, in fact, has become a global epidemic and we are just watching ourselves grow fatter and fatter day by day.

What exactly has caused this increase in obese population? The answer lies in our growth. We have machines and technology to help us, we have gadgets to simplify our work, mobiles and faxes eliminate the need to move to communicate and this is the reason we are getting fatter. We have better per capita income in the world and we have increased food production. We have been made lazy due to technology. Moreover, with the globalization of every flavor in the world and all this advertising to attract people to eat, you simply can not control your taste-buds.

One other reason for our growing obese population is that we tend to accept only those things or facts that we like and ignore those that we don’t. All of us know that the dietary and anti-obesity programs going on with such intensity are mostly hoax. All of us also know the cons of obesity. But we have just accepted the former and ignored the latter simply because we don’t like it. We should therefore start with a change in our attitude if we want to fight obesity.

The simplest of ways to fight obesity is to count your calories. Take as much as calories as you burn in a day. Also, change your eating habits and switch to healthier alternatives like whole grains, lean meat and low-cal dietary foods. An increased water and fiber intake also helps in creating the feeling of fullness and thus reducing your calorie intake.

One of the major potholes in the dietary programs is craving. You should not be tempted to eat your favorite foods if they are high in calorie and oil. A session of meditation at least once a week can help you overcome your craving. Also, you should talk yourself out of your craving when you are struck with it.

You should complement all this by a good workout regime. This will burn your calories and make you fitter as well. Also, you may ask your doctor to help you in your fitness regime. Emotional support by your family can also help you in overcoming that psychological barrier of your outlook and thus, place you in the path of eternal fitness.
