Healthy snacking for your family
The two words in the heading don’t seem friendly to each other since for most of us snacking increases our weight and so it’s not healthy but at the same time to stay in shape most of us have to cut back on snacks. So how can we combine the two words?
Let us start with understanding what snacking is and gradually proceed to the conclusions. Snacks are the small (for some large) meals that we have in between our meals to satisfy our hunger but for some it becomes craving. So snacks occur due to our hunger either due to activities or just because our fuel tank (stomach) is empty for too long. So off we head for the refrigerator or the snacks bar or maybe that wonderful vending machine. So what’s wrong with satisfying our hunger and why does it add to our calories. The answer lies in the fact that due to many reasons we prefer to have snacks enriched in fats or having extreme levels of sweetening, one of the chief reasons being stress, since stress fastens our overall body performance and makes us able to perform better with high stress having the ability to sharpen our senses many times over and sends the whole body into full power mode and naturally this leads to hunger, fats and especially chocolates help us sooth out this effect. So when on a very busy and stressful day of work you take that chocolate bar form the vending machine it soothes your mind and the mind notices this unconsciously and records it. So next day when you are tense you get up to have a snack but instead of having anything your body wants to eat that thing which soothed it out last time. Other factors are also responsible in many cases. So the general ways to beat this not to treat yourself occasionally, but to stick to the healthy diet that you are following. By doing this we reduce the calories consumed per snack and which at the end of the day ads up to a lot of your daily calorie consumption. Also having snacks that are rich in fiber or easily satisfy your hunger, act as a twin edged blade by firstly cutting the overall amount consumed as snack and also reducing the calorie density of your snacks. Another important thing to note here is that there is a low calorie replacement to the revered chocolate and that is cocoba. It is made from cocoba tree and has 40% lesser calories than chocolate.
So keep snacking healthy foods and stay in shape with ease.
