Demographic Assessment of Physical Health

When we talk about demography it’s generally about figures and areas. But rarely do we understand the importance of it in our daily life. If a physical health assessment of an individual has to be made demographic assessment is the first and foremost assessment that has to be made. Over the centuries and particularly in the last few decades the importance of demographic assessment has grown.

What is demographic assessment of physical health?

Demographic assessment is basically the assessment that is made on the basis on various body facts or to be more precise demographic data of your body. Some of the common ones are your height, weight, genetic factors etc.

One of the most important demographic data is your weight and other related data. The moment weight is introduced our mind flashes across to various measurements that we put ourselves to like BMI etc. BMI mostly emphasizes on the weight to height ratio. But they are good for personal analysis of our fat content but only in extreme cases do they emphasize ill health. The BMI charts have many defects especially since it does not take into account the bone density and muscle composition of various individuals. In the recent years more precise test especially that of cholesterol and various types of fats have come into use which provide more effective demographic detail, though these are only required in special cases and illness.

Other specifics are required from time to time to make related to any specific ill health that a person or his immediate family may have. These require special tests like that as mentioned before related to cholesterol levels etc. But for normal individuals knowing the BMI is enough. Though, the amount of physical activities and exercising done per week is also required for better assessment of the person’s true physical condition. Every one of need to perform some required amount of exercises or activities. For some individuals much of this requirement is completed by the various chores and also by their professional pursuits which require physical effort.

Another factor to be taken into account while gauging physical fitness is an individual’s genetic makeup. By genetic makeup it means that since different individuals come from different regions of the world and so their sub races have different tolerances and diverse physical buildup. Various genetic factors play a decided role in a person’s physical health assessment.
