Medicinal Effects on Physical Health

With the advancement in medical sciences, there seems to be a medical drug for everything. For a problem as serious as heart diseases to a problem as puny as stress, there seems to be no limit to the options in medication. On one hand this has helped in increasing the standard of lifestyle and life expectancy to a great deal, on the other hand it has also caused increased self medication and dependence on medicines.

Medicines may not only decrease drug response, they may also have serious side-effects like allergies, drug dependency, chances of over dosage and in extreme cases brain damage and neural inhibition. Although all of the drugs are clinically tested to be safe, medicinal effects on individuals can never be assessed beforehand. Thus medication should always be avoided as far as possible.

Most of the over-the-counter medicines that are sold today can simply be avoided by maintaining healthy eating habits and proper workout regimes. One of the most common self-medicated problems like stress can be treated easily by family support and minding ones short temper. It can easily be solved by reduced work loads and a friendly attitude towards one and all. Another common problem of the modern world, backache can simply be eliminated completely by changing one’s sitting and sleeping posture and a good workout regime.

One should always follow a balanced diet and count his calories to keep oneself fit. A light workout or a morning walk also keeps you healthy, thus helping you to maintain a healthy lifestyle without any medicinal side effects. Also, it helps in better functioning of the brain, thereby eliminating the need of health supplements and drugs.

Often big problems have the simplest of solutions. Medicinal effects can be greatly reduced by self consciousness and awareness. Always remember to talk with your physician about your allergies and medical history before the actual medication starts. Also try to talk about your past experiences and general interests during rehabilitation of any kind. Moreover, family support is greatly encouraged in such cases.

Medicines should be used to keep us healthy and not for making ourselves a slave to such avoidable nemesis. One should try to maintain a healthy lifestyle and use medicines to complement that lifestyle. One should never indulge in self medication as the side effects may be irreversible. We should remember, medicines are made to benefit us and not the other way round.
