Apects of Physical and Mental Health

Mental aspects of Physical Health

Modern lifestyle has been affecting the man adversely. It is taking a toll not only on the body of an individual but also on the mind. Mental fatigue, frustration, depression and tension have been the gifts of the fast paced lifestyle. Meeting deadlines and fulfilling commitments at the cost of ones health is affecting the mental health.

Mental health plays a vital role in complementing the physical health of a person. One cannot be physically fit without being mentally fit. One of the common misconception about mental health is that you have to have a mental disorder (e.g. amnesia; hypertension etc.) to be mentally unfit. Even a small problem like loss of sleep or hyperactivity may indicate mental unhealth.

One of the most common ways to gain mental health is MEDITATION. Meditation does not mean to stay in the state of complete mental blankness for hours. In fact, it is the highest form of meditation. You can start meditating simply by sitting in a comfortable position, free from disturbances and thinking about relaxing things. You may gradually attain a higher level as you practice. Meditation not only provides you with positive energy, it is also a great stress buster. Also, it helps you increase your efficiency and perform better in all fields.

Maintaining healthy relationships with your colleagues and neighbors is also very important to attain good mental health. You cannot expect to have mental peace if you are constantly at bay with one of your colleagues or if you have grudges against someone. One has to maintain friendly relations with one and all to have mental peace.

A good diet is also important for mental health as it is for physical health. The food you intake should nurture your mind and help your body grow. A balanced diet is vital as people often tend to indulge in overeating and bad eating habits when they are mentally disturbed. Drugs (both addictive and medicative) are often more harsh on the mind than the body. They may also cause permanent brain damage. So it is always advisable to keep away from the medicative drugs by maintaining a good healthy lifestyle.

One should also be able to appreciate himself/herself as a good human being. Low self esteem often indicates low mental health. You should be content with what you are and try not to do something that you would repent for later in your life.

Mental health is as important as the physical heath itself. A healthy mind is definitely going to provide better output than an unhealthy one. One should always remember that laughter and happiness is the cheapest and most important mental medicines.
